Have you ever wondered about how the Queen is chosen?

Ever thought about how that Bee Monarchy works? Is there some sort of democracy behind it all?

You might be surprised.

We use to wonder such things also, but now we know, so we thought we would share this with you.

Bees replace their queen when she stops performing.

They create a new queen by feeding Royal Jelly to some of the female eggs.

The first Queen Bee to hatch makes her maiden act one of going about and destroying the other potential Queens: with that done the job interview is over and she gets the role.

Thank the Bees, enjoy the flowers, it is where the Mead making process begins.

When we make the statement: "Bees play an important role in Mead making, without them there would be no Mead." We realize just how selfish that sounds, because without bees, a lack of mead would probably be the least of our worries.

Bees play a vital role in our ecosystem, they operate locally, yet have a major global impact in terms of food production, and this is not about honey, it is about all of those other food crops that rely on bees for pollination. Bees and flowers have a symbiotic relationship where each relies on the other for their ongoing survival.

Just as our environment relies on the bees, the bees rely on the environment. A healthy environment makes for healthy bees.

Please ponder on this the next time you are enjoying a glass of Mead.
